Cevrolet Captiva

The Captiva is based on the same platform as other small General Motors CUVs such as the Pontiac Torrent, Chevrolet Equinox and Suzuki XL7, but while the Stateside versions use GM's 3.6 liter V6, the Captiva is powered by a 4-cylinder diesel or a smaller Australian-sourced gasoline V6. The Captiva can be found in Europe, Latin America, and Asia; it's sold in Australia and New Zealand as the Holden Captiva.

Chevrolet is launching a sports version of the Chevrolet Captiva, the dynamically styled five-door and first compact sports utility vehicle in Chevrolet's European model range. Over 43,000 units of the highly successful Chevrolet SUV have been sold in Europe since its launch in 2006. Numerous new accessories will make the Chevrolet Captiva even more attractive.

The car is offered with three different types of engines: two petrol and one diesel. Diesel aggregate volume of 2.0 l/150 litres. Tractors and modification of Captiva in Russia would not be sold. So to choose among the options of four with two petrol engines (2.4 l/136 litres, V6 and 3.2 l/230. C). V-shaped "six" good leads 1770 kg Captiva, coupled with the 5-step automatic transmission and car Pick accelerates to 100 km / h in less than 9.

Normally, a car Pick Tractors, and only when the driving wheels are stalled, electronics engages the rear wheels, which can be transferred up to 50% torque, as required. No locks, and the reduction of Captiva not. If necessary, you can include assistance with the downhill (it artificially lowers the speed and car pastors in the downhill, braking the engine and the wheels to the car did not deploy across the slope). The Chevrolet Captiva Sport responds to the fast increasing demand for a distinctive and stylish sports utility vehicle which is available with the economical yet powerful common-rail 2.0L turbo diesel engine or,alternatively, the smooth 169 hp V6 engine.

Even with its discount price the Captiva still manages to offer a decent list of standard equipment. In addition to 16-inch alloy wheels and an eight-way adjustable driver's seat, the base CUV comes with front, side, and curtain airbags, as well as a six-speaker, MP3-compatible audio system with steering wheel-mounted controls. Going on sale in the UK last year, the Captiva's popularity has been a major contributor to Chevrolet's recent European growth. Chevy sales in the UK were up 27.6 percent last year, and the first quarter of 2008 saw another 21 percent jump. Currently the only Chevy SUV sold in Europe (beyond the family-hauler HHR), the Captiva is helping to expand the brand's presence on the Continent.

mitsubishi New Lancer

One of the first 2008 models to land in dealer showrooms, the new Mitsubishi Lancer is a complete remake from the wheels up of the company's entry in the compact sedan class. This is not merely an exercise in dressing the previous model in a new set of threads. From sheetmetal to upholstery to mechanicals to interior trim, it's a new car.

The body has been re-styled, with a more aggressive fascia and a wedgier profile. The result, sadly, is mixed. It looks really sharp head on, a little dull going away. Overall proportions are balanced, though, so the final result is a plus.

The engine is new, albeit the same displacement as before, but now with a double overhead cam in place of the '06's single, and updated electronics. Horsepower is up by 32, torque by 16 pound-feet of torque (22 and 12, respectively, in states with California emission rules). A Continuously Variable Transmission replaces the '06's automatic, with a five-speed manual still the standard gearbox.

The 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer has gained weight over the '06, between 200 and 400 pounds, depending on model and trim. This, together with the more powerful engine, no doubt accounts at least in part to the lower fuel economy ratings for the 2008 model. Lower, also, than most of the competition, some of which better the Lancer by 5 miles per gallon or more in EPA City and Highway estimates.

Inside, there's roomy seating for five. Instruments and dash are pleasing to the eye and friendly to the fingers, with easy-to-use knobs and switches for the more important functions. Some details are less than ideal, but the Lancer is, after all, an economy car and not Mitsubishi's flagship.

The options list comprises value-adding packages. Disappointing is the need to pay extra for air conditioning and antilock brakes on the base Lancer. But a high-quality sound system is offered for the two upper trim levels. And impressive for this price level is a full-featured navigation-cum-music server system available on the top model.

Toyota Camry

The Toyota Camry is a mid-size car assembled by Toyota in Georgetown, Kentucky, Altona, Victoria, Guangzhou, China and the original factory in Tsutsumi (Japan). In some markets, the top range Camry models are seen as executive cars. The Camry has been the best selling car in the United States, its largest consumer market, for nine of the last ten years starting in 1997, with the only exception being 2001. The Camry also sells very well in Australia, Canada, and a number of Asian markets - in particular Cambodia where the vast majority of cars are Camrys.

It has not sold as well in Europe and Japan; many criticize its design as ill-suited for European and Japanese tastes. An up-branded luxury version of the Camry was sold in Japan as the Toyota Windom until 2006; the related Lexus ES in North America, Asia, and the Middle East shares major chassis and drivetrain components with the Camry.
The name "Camry" comes from a phonetic transcription of the Japanese word kanmuri, which means "crown", as did the names of the Toyota Crown, Corolla and Corona.

Daihatsu Terios

The Terios is a compact, supermini with all wheel drive. The car has a rugged looking exterior design, supermini dimensions, and can adapt to overcome various weather elements, yet remains stylish and sophisticated. Daihatsu gave the Terios a taller cabin which changed its looks dramatically over what has become the traditional supermini. As odd as it looks the car has some real quality features worth taking note of.
The Diahatsu Terios has more cabin space than superminis of the past have had, and it provides a stable, comfortable ride. The car’s increased cabin space is more family friendly and increases the car’s potential list of buyers. The boot is now large enough to accommodate more family friendly items. The Terios's unique style allows it to compete more easily in its sector, its build quality rivals many of the better well known brands, and the four-wheel drive system makes it more of an all weather vehicle and that is bound to come in handy.
The Terios is a supermini, but that has not hindered it’s off road capabilities much. Despite its size, the Terrios can and does function in the capacity of a 4X4 vehicle. Daihatsu’s reputation for building reliable and durable cars is exemplified with the Terios.

Honda Jazz

Honda's Jazz is one of the cleverest superminis around. It's a thoroughly modern design that's innovative in its use of space, with remarkably good head and rear legroom, well specced, and fitted with frugal and characterful engines. It's at its best in town where it's both friendly and fun to drive. It's very nearly the complete package. The only criticisms are the high initial asking price (although Jazz holds its value well) and the lack of a diesel or headline model (like the Civic Type-R) to get the young driver market interested.

Comfort
Thoughtful use of space means that it seats five without anyone having to breathe in. The seats are comfortable for pottering around town, but not supportive enough for longer trips. Road noise can be a problem: it's tolerable at low speeds, but on the motorway the drone can become irritating. Despite its tall design, there's no problem with wind noise and the engine is well insulated.

Most are well-equipped which combines with the plush feel to help justify the price. Base model gets electric front windows, twin airbags and CD player. SE gets air-con.

Performance
The range kicks off with a 75bhp 1.2-litre, which was introduced to the Jazz range in late 2004 - just after Jazz got a few styling and comfort tweaks. It's a peppy unit that's well suited to town work; it's quick off the mark and nippy at low speeds. It certainly feels quicker than its 0-60mph time of 13.3 seconds suggests. The 81bhp 1.4-litre engine was the engine that Jazz was launched in 2002 and it suits most drivers' needs as it has no problems keeping up with traffic and acceleration is brisk enough for quick lane-changing. It's just as impressive on the motorway, cruising easily at 70-80mph.

Handling
An easy car to drive around town thanks to its light steering and controls. On A and B roads it feels sharp and composed, with firm and precise gearchanges and responsive brakes. It's not fun, but certainly safe and predictable. The Jazz is only let down by its harsh ride (especially on early models that had even firmer suspension), which can at times be jarring and very uncomfortable over potholed roads. Jazz is available with a five-speed manual or seven-speed Continuously Variable Transmission. The latter is an automatic with a manual override to allow you to change gear if you need to.

Safety
Euro NCAP awarded Jazz four star car for occupant crash protection, three stars for child protection and three stars for pedestrian safety. All have dual airbags (and sidebags on SE Sport), and ABS.

Suzuki Crossover

You may want to check out the all-new 2007 Suzuki SX4, a crossover that is set to hit showroom floors during the third quarter of 2006. A replacement for the Aerio, the SX4, a five-door hatchback, has a station-wagon like style with has a waistline that starts low and gets higher as it continues down the side of the car. There's a fashionable wedge shape design to it. The front end of the car has a resemblance to other members of the Suzuki family.

Priced between $15,000 and $18,000, the styling gives the SX4 a look that's different from the other cars it competes with, such as the Honda Fit, Toyota Yaris and ChevyAveo, which could mean better sales. But the other big advantage is that it has standard all-wheel drive. None of the other competitors in the field can say that, and for Pittsburghers, that may be all they need to know. Suzuki is fully aware of this advantage, and that's why the number "4" is included in the car's name.

The "intelligent all-wheel drive" system can be operated in three seatings using a console-mounted switch: 2WD for maximum fuel economy on dry pavement; AWD Auto mode, which controls the drive power distribution ratio to the rear wheels in the range of 0 to 50 percent depending on available traction; and AWD Lock mode designed to help escape from snow or mud with the drive power distribution ratio to the rear wheels in the range of 30 to 50 percent. When the car reaches 36 miles per hour in AWD Lock mode, the system automatically switches to AWD Auto mode.

The SX4 is powered by a 143 horsepower, 2.0 liter four cylinder engine backed by a either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic. Fuel economy estimates are 24 mpg city and 30 highway. Standard safety features include an electronic stability program that includes traction control, anti-lock brakes, side curtain air bags, side impact air bags, driver and front passenger side impact air bags and front seat air bags.
